The Orwell Prize 2016 will be launched by Ken Macdonald QC

on Wednesday 28th October at the Frontline Club, London W2 1QJ.

Following the launch, David Loyn will chair a discussion by The Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP, Professor Suzanne Franks and Ian Birrell on the subject

The Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP, theConservative Member of Parliament for Sutton Coldfeld, was the UK Secretary of State for International Development from 2010 – 2012.

Professor Suzanne Franks is Professor of Journalism at City University, London. Her research focuses on the relationship between media and aid, media and development and the media coverage of humanitarian disasters. She is the author of Reporting Disasters: Famine, Aid, Politics and the Media

Ian Birrell is a foreign correspondent, contributing editor of the Mail on Sunday and a regular columnist in the ‘i’ newspaper. He has reported extensively from Africa and is the co-founder of Africa Express.

David Loyn is a foreign correspondent and the former BBC International Development Correspondent. He is the author of FrontlineReporting from the World’s Deadliest Places.
