The Tabloid Trickster: Psychoanalysing “The Sun” from a Post-Jungian Perspective


The journalism of The Sun newspaper and other British tabloid titles is currently at the heart of a fierce national debate in the wake of the Leveson inquiry (Part I) into the culture, practice and ethics of the press, and the phonehacking scandal that closed the News of the World.

After thrimgresee decades working on these ‘redtops’, James is completing a PhD, supervised by Professor Andrew Samuels at the University of Essex, suggesting that their transgressive mischievousness manifests the archetypal principle identified as Trickster and thus performs a crucial psychological function.
