The Canterbury U3A is one of over 900 U3As in the UK and was founded in 1987 for retired or semi-retired people from any background living in the Canterbury district. U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, but it is not a university in the academic sense; rather it is an organisation that believes that we do not stop learning when we retire.
In stead it provides a golden opportunity through self-help to widen our experiences and knowledge. We do this through offering courses, outings, activities, all arranged by our members, none of which are examinable. Some people join to learn something new, others to enjoy the social interaction. Our 2014-15 Main Programme has 144 courses in members’ homes and venues throughout the district.
